Mark Trompeteler
'Art, Photography & Meaning: Attempting an individual photographic voice or style'

In the richly illustrated first half, Mark will talk about his interests in the ways in which painting and photography impacted each other after photography was invented.

He will look at how painting and photography have irrevocably influenced each other and how the history of painting has influenced camera club visual culture.
He will also look at some of the ways in which meaning is communicated in some classic photographs without using titles or captions.

In the second half, using a lot of photographs, Mark asks the questions:
In the Camera Club world where there are so many competitions, and so many judges, all offering advice on what to do, and what not to do, should a photographer attempt to find an individual distinctive photographic voice or style? If so, how?
What can inspire such individual styles?
How does the approach of story, project, panel, portfolio photography compare against the pursuit of BPE excellence in Camera Club single photographs?
Can some of the issues raised in the first half of the talk relate to the issues raised here?
